It’s been awhile. We’re excited to share one of the singles off of our new LP, which has taken us almost a year to complete. It’s engineered and produced by David Silverstein @ Sabella Studios in Long Island. In the next two months, expect to see a lot more updates as we gear up for the records release in late June or early July. At the moment we just need to get the record mastered, and then pressed!
If you’re free tomorrow night, we’re also playing our very last show with our beloved drummer, Patrick Brennan, who will be sorely missed.

We play at 8pm. But stick around from our pals from Austin TX, Holy Wave, who are incredible, as well as local friends FLOWN & NT. It’s not to be missed! Hope to see you there!

Closet Classics - Rarities, B-Sides, Outtakes & More!

Hello again friends! We’re excited to announce the release today of “Closet Classics” a collection of pow wow!’s never before released material, outtakes, rarities and demos recorded between 2005 to the present. It is a compendium spanning six amazing years as a band, presented to you chronologically from the beginning. It’s been a hoot scavenging through our archives and digging up these little gems, sorting through unlabeled tapes & vaguely tagged sound files. The aptly named title undoubtedly rings true, as much of our catalog has been cooped up in boxes and old hard drives stored in our…well, closets.

“Closet Classics” follows us through our early days as suburban kids obsessed with garage rock, 90s brit-pop, french ye-ye girls, & the smiths, excavating our way through record bins, and in effect, informing what would ultimately become our style. If you already know our music, then the progression from tracks 1 to 12 should make sense. If not, perhaps it will give you the back story as to how it is we’ve came about making the music we do today. This collection is presented as an unapologetic exposure of our formative years, biding our free time sitting in parked cars and hashing out hair brained schemes over coffee and chain smoking, listening to mix tapes made from our latest “score” at the Princeton Record Exchange. The exciting part is, we have so many left over tracks that we’re already thinking of releasing “Closet Classics II” in the not too distant future!

So now the question is, how do you get it? By pre-ordering our upcoming debut LP via Kickstarter. “Closet Classics” is an exclusive reward for those who pledge $15 or more, so if you’re one of the amazingly supportive and loving fans, friends and family who’ve already done that, expect a “Backers only” update which will include a download link, to the album. If you haven’t, visit our Kickstarter page and kindly make a pledge:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/powwownyc/pow-wow-to-release-debut-lp-2011

$15 or more gets you our upcoming LP + “Closet Classics”, and there are other generous pledge rewards up there, including t-shirts, buttons, by-request cover song recordings, & private performances! We only have 27 days left to reach our goal, so if you’ve ever wanted to hear pow wow! on vinyl, this is how to make it happen!

Thank you again to everyone who has donated and everyone who has shown their support and love for us throughout the years at all of our live concerts.

& a BIG BIG thank you to all of pow wow!’s previous members, to whom “Closet Classics” is dedicated:

2005-2007: Blake Zarsky (Co-Writer, Lead Guitar)
2005-2007, 2009-2010: Chris O’Connell (Drums, Percussion)
2005-2007: Corey Mcnaught (Bass)
2008-2009: Michael Venutulo (Drums, Percussion)
2010-2011: Max Tucker (Drums, Percussion)

We’d like to start off by thanking everyone who has made pledges to our kickstarter! It’s amazing how much we’ve raised so far, thanks to all of your generosity!
In return, we’d like to show you our thanks by giving you “Closet Classics” an exclusive collection of b-sides, rarities, and never before released tracks (2005-2009). It will be a 12 song compilation of remastered goodies that we were are offering up as a reward exclusively to pledges of $15 or more. If you’ve already made your pledge, expect a link in your mailbox by the end of this week. The deadline is a month and a half away, and we have about $1100 to raise! we need all the support we can get. Tell your friends, bloggers, lovers, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers (and of course extended family, classmates, and co-workers)

Here’s a little preview of what you’re going to get: Obviously Morbid, recorded late 2005 by pow wow!’s second inception: Eddie, Jeff, Chris & Blake. It’s a catchy number influenced by equal parts girl group + 80s brit/scottish-punky-pop, and a song that would go on to inform the body of music you know us for. It’s previously unreleased.

It’s a bit early to be posting this, but it’s going to be EPIC.

We had an amazing time playing to a lively summer crowd, comprised of friends, family and perfect strangers, down at the Fulton Stall Market, for the Sound Bites Series part of the River to River Festival! We’ll surely leaving this Summer on a high point in terms of live shows, as we are taking a break from here til September to finish work on our debut LP! Below is a link to a playlist (as well as individual links) of some pretty good quality video taken at our show of the entire set courtesy of Chris N.

Many thanks to Bill Pearis, for setting up such an awesome summer series, as well as the kind folks behind the River to River Festival and Fulton Stall Market for helping make it happen.

Setlist:
1. It’s Not That Easy
2. The Devil Came To Me
3. Found
4. Sister
5. So Weird
6. Ghosts
7. Shoot
8. 23 19

Don’t forget! We’re playing our last show of the summer (well, until September 3rd) tomorrow at 3PM sharp at the South Street Seaport (Fulton Stall Market) as part of the Sound Bites Series of the River to River Festival! DJ set starts at 2PM, and our set will be followed by more spinning behind the tables, courtesy of Brooklyn Vegan’s own pop aficionado, Bill Pearis. It will also sadly be Max Tucker’s last appearance behind the kit as the drummer of pow wow! It’s been an incredible time playing with such a talented and passionate young man, and needless to say, it’s an amicable break, as Max departs to focus on his main project, Dinowalrus. As for some eye candy, here’s some alternate flyer art I made, inspired while being sick as a dog this week, gettin’ my anime nerd on via netflix. - E
